Ben Pogue and Adrian Gonzalez Acknowledged in the CEC’s AB525 Final Offshore Wind Energy Strategic Plan
Director of Natural Resource Management, Benjamin Pogue, and Staff Scientist, Adrian Gonzalez, were recently acknowledged for their pivotal roles in shaping the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) Final Commissioning Report for AB525.
The Final Plan was adopted on July 10th, 2024, after two years of development and review and is set to provide policymakers with a roadmap for a thriving and sustainable future in the offshore wind energy landscape.
“I’m very excited to be supporting the CEC and Governor’s Office in planning the west coast’s energy future in offshore wind,” says Mr. Pogue. “We feel our research and analysis will create a common vision across this newly found industry and will facilitate the path forward in harnessing the Pacific’s immense energy supply.”
Mr. Pogue and Mr. Gonzalez’s contributions to the report provide a comprehensive analysis of the potential economic benefits of seaport development and workforce development. This entails the research and analysis of case studies from the U.S. East Coast and abroad to develop findings and recommendations for workforce development and standards. Additionally, they engaged industry and training experts to incorporate their suggestions into the larger workforce development strategy, with a focus on supply chain development.
“I had the privilege of interviewing offshore wind developers and manufacturers, training organizations, and unions as part of the economic and workforce development for AB525,” says Mr. Gonzalez. “Offshore wind will have the potential to create clean energy for Californians for years to come, provide short-term and long-term jobs, and revitalize coastal communities impacted by economic and infrastructural investments elsewhere.”
